Raw Foodist Diet

Master Your Health With Raw Foods by Ginger Robbins
When it comes to health, the real common denominator is energy. And we know to get this energy we need a balance of proper nutrition, exercise and rest. Exercise is fairly straightforward — there’s a way to do it that suits everyone. Rest is simple too, if we can make the time, and reduce our stimulant intake so that we can actually sleep at night. But nutrition seems to continue to be a puzzle. Many diets can help one condition or another, but very few offer a complete picture: a lifelong path to high energy and vibrant health. Ready to make a real change? It’s time to have a look at the Raw And Living Foods diet.
The idea of the Raw Food diet is immediately ignored by many people, thinking they’ll be forced to eat only “rabbit food” for the rest of their lives. Nothing could be further from the truth! True “raw foodists” are also exceptional gourmets. The meals and deserts are like nothing you’ve ever seen (along with giving you energy like nothing you’ve ever felt!). The latest “cookbooks” are a feast for the eyes as well as the tongue, and these meals are actually very easy to make. Nothing to burn!
Interestingly, there’s a lot of opposition to eating this way — clearly from folks who either haven’t tried it, or haven’t given it a real effort. Claims are made that raw food is hard to digest (while somehow all life on the Planet got along quite well for millions of years without cooking!) or that the food will be too cold (have they tried a raw Jalapeno?).
There’s truly a difference in the available nutrition in raw and living foods. While some research indicates some nutrients are “liberated” by cooking (made available), it’s well known that far more are destroyed. And in that destruction are some of the most important nutrients of all: enzymes. Because we haven’t figured out a required level of these crucial molecules, they seem to be overlooked in mainstream discussions of nutrition. However, consider what they do: there is an almost uncountable number of chemical reactions going on in our bodies all the time. Enzymes make these reactions possible — and while we make our own, its far more effective to receive them from our diets. A deficiency in enzymes has been implicated in nearly every major epidemic illness we see today.
You know that fatigued feeling you get after eating? For many people, it seems to happen after every single meal. What’s happening has several facets: we’re having a reaction to the toxins we’re ingesting (recall the recent discovery of “acrylamide”, a cancer-causing agent found in cooked, and especially deep-fried foods). We’re also having to expend more energy digesting the foods because the naturally occurring enzymes are not present, and many people are becoming glucose-intolerant from un-naturally high levels of refined carbohydrates. It’s been found that our immune system reacts strongly when cooked foods are ingested, just as if we were exposed to any other toxic material.
Enzymes, the alkaline environment, and the high levels of minerals present in The Raw food diet have made it popular with leading edge physicians. There have been reports of people cured of diabetes by following the diet with the modification of a very low sugar intake. It has also been proposed to be the foundation of alternative cancer treatments, in that cancer cells cannot survive in highly alkaline environments.
From a more esoteric standpoint, when whole, organic, plant-based food is not heated when prepared, the enzymes remain intact, micro-nutrients remain intact, and the life force of the food remains intact. Raw food proponents make the natural connection that the life force of the food is readily available to our bodies, where it would not have been otherwise. The food you’re eating was alive a short time ago, with roots in the ground, converting sunlight to energy — why kill it by cooking it if you too want to have the greatest amount of life force?
The case for the raw food diet is really very extensive: from healing ourselves to healing the planet (which we may cover in another article), and the greatest proponents of raw food are committing themselves to personal and planetary evolution. This is really just a quick peek at why one might want to consider eating this way, and there are whole books on the subject for those of you interested in learning more. It’s an exceptionally intriguing topic, very much worth further investigation!
